The Constitution of India
Can anybody tell me what is the definition of the Constitution? Come on, I’m not asking for a bookish definition or web searched definition (Googled one, that is what they
say nowadays). THiNK and answer. Ok, leave it. Keep your answers to yourself.
But, have you ever tried (we hardly try for anything other than gal) to KNOW our Constitution.
From what
I could figure out, the reasons behind this reluctance to know about The
Constitution is:
- WE HAVE HEARD, it is too lengthy
- WE HAVE HEARD, it is so confusing and vague
- WE HAVE HEARD, it is mostly COPIED from many other constitutions (we don’t know any of them either)
- WE HAVE HEARD, it is supposed to be studied (?!) by LLB students only
- WE HAVE HEARD, constitution means mostly jurisdiction wala part only (and you know, how much I hate court and all stuff)
- Does it matter if I don’t know about the constitution? Why the hell I should worry about it at all
- The Constitution?! Is it any holy book like Geeta, Quran, Bible?? Oh, I’m an atheist.
- They don’t know anything about this and
- They think that all this is non-sense and doesn’t matter to his/her life.
Guys
(here, this word is used for both genders), wake up. We talk about things which
we don’t even know about. Basic things like, how are commissions formed? How are bills passed? What is the implication of a particular bill on everybody’s life? We all
MUST know all this. Otherwise, the topic of discussion in XYZ Restaurant on
some fine weekend is Lokpal Bill and what we know is Anna Hazare and his hunger
strike unto death.
Again
we have WATCHED in some MOVIES that commissions are formed and dissolved without
any strong action. But before getting angry about the situation, we must first know what
exactly the situation is. We should not follow the herds (I remind you because
human species are blessed with a brain).
India
is observing a dynamic political revolution. Now it’s your call, to be in the audience and comment, critic, close eyes or be the part of the change. Please note that,
to know the constitution is not the only way to be active in dynamic political
revolution but it will surely refine & strengthen your views towards
changes.
We
vote for a person to work for the betterment of the society, but we don’t even know
what exactly s/he does. Whether s/he even attends parliament/assembly sessions or not. And
the very first thing is, is s/he aware of local problems or not? The only period
when our MLA/MP/Contestant of MLA/MP visits our local area is a few months prior
to the election.
We
have HEARD that, the government has implemented SOMETHING (they mean, Govt Yojana)
to the Gram Panchayat level too (come on man, we live in METRO, who cares about
Gram Panchayat and farms (& farmers too)). But we should know how all these
things are interconnected. We know that many people even don’t talk about
politics and governance at all. The basic reasons:
But,
if you see, all this is very well connected to our life. Our day-to-day
activity is affected by all the decisions taken in the parliament/assembly.
If
you are still reading this blog post and could come to this line without
getting bored, I recommend you to read our very well elaborated constitution (the good
news is, “Constitution of India” app is also available). You can use http://www.constitution.org/cons/india/const.html
Be an active, knowledgeable, expressive part of the political revolution of India.
Jai
Hind!
