Green..!

Socio-Political Green: Green, being one the dominant color on our flag, has special meaning in Indian society & politics. If fact, the Flag’s green strip is specifically called “India Green”. It represents agricultural prosperity. It stands for faith and loyalty. “The colors adopted in the flag had no communal significance” Dr. S Radhakrishanan (President of India (1962–1967)). It is a general assumption that the colors on our flag represent different religions, which is completely wrong. We are a secular country.

Corporate Green/Green Engineering/Design: Today, every corporate, every nation is seeking Sustainable growth. We all are aware of Carbon Credit and its importance. A carbon credit is a generic term for any tradable certificate or permits representing the right to emit one ton of carbon dioxide or the mass of another greenhouse gas with a carbon dioxide equivalent to one ton of carbon dioxide. It is obvious that Future Technology should create minimum Pollution (they say, ZERO) and preserve non-renewable resources and nature for our future and future generation. Considering Carbon Credit restriction for manufacturing and preserving nature, we can say, Black is the New Green”. With Dr Singh recent announcement of spending 2% of GDP on R&D, I’m hopeful that we will be able to innovate better technology which will help us to “go green” with maximum productivity.

Green Building: It is a building in which minimum wastage (again, they call it, ZERO) is observed. It is an energy-efficient building where even Sunlight is used effectively.  It should be noted that the term has nothing to do with the color of the building. Considering the current situation of energy availability we can say that the Green building is the future of construction.

Green Energy Fund: The government of India is funding research and innovative projects in clean energy technology.  Many areas of the country's pollution level have reached alarming proportions.  While it must be ensured that the principal of a “polluter pays” remains the basic guiding criteria for pollution management, there should also be a positive thrust for the development of clean/green energy.  And to build the purpose of the National Clean Energy Fund (NCEF), the Minister has proposed to levy a clean energy cess on coal produced in India at a nominal rate of Rs.50 per ton, which will also be applicable to imported coal. (As per GENERAL BUDGET 2010-11)

Green House Effect (GHE):  It is a process in which heat radiated from a planetary surface is absorbed by atmospheric gases such as CO2, NO2, Methane, Ozone Water Vapor, etc. and is re-radiated in all directions. This process leads to an increase in atmospheric temperature. GHE is also useful for agricultural purposes, but its contribution to temperature increase is very small.

Green Card: A card that identifies the bearer as an alien with permanent resident status in the United States. Obama recently announced for faster action on the immigration issues.

Green is not just another color.
