Should I Do It?
Many a time, in our day-to-day life scenario, we come
across a situation of “should I do it?” It’s not like we love or hate to do
something, but we just give a thought over it. And then, we choose to do
whatever our conscience directs us to do.
We must be clear that there is a difference between
Whimsical Behavior and Cognitive Conscience. Whimsical Behavior is irrational,
also called ‘Animal Instinct’ whereas; Cognitive Conscience is developed
over a period of time. Cognitive Conscience is similar to what ‘Inner Voice’,
as Gandhiji used to say.
In many situations, we just follow rituals. For
example, someday we don’t feel like having tea, but just drink it because that
is what we do every morning. Many a time we keep following rituals without
knowing the rationale behind that activity.
The situation gets even complicated when it comes to the decision which will affect one’s life. Many of us come across the following two
events, which we will discuss in subsequent paragraphs;
1- Choosing a Career
2- Falling in Love
In case one, we consider many factors. We consult many
people. But here too, some irrational behavior, like choosing a course because
your ‘jiggi’ friend did, is seen. But
let’s not focus on this naïve group. Other general factors considered while
choosing a career are dream, interest, scope, value addition to life, so on.
Most part of it is done systematically or scientifically. And then we arrive at
our decision. “Should I do it?” is solved after this long procedure.
In case two, we THiNK even more. But here, the method of
consultation is a total failure (writer’s opinion). Everyone’s advice depend
upon one’s perception about you (which may be wrong), experience (maybe
inadequate), imagination (maybe foolish) so these things will not help you. Planning
love is even worse (this single writer never did planning, though he was a project
planner in one of the MNC). It is rightly said that you FALL in love, and
obviously you don’t plan to fall. But the chances are you may fall in the wrong
place. So the option is planning?! No. I think, in case of love, you don’t
think “Should I do it?” and if you do think that way, then it’s a business
strategy, not love. I remember the famous line from Alchemist,
”And
when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve
it”
[yes, you are right, Om Shanti Om ke director ne copy
kiya hai! :p]
Both these things: career and love, are equally and
very important, but methods to arrive at the end are (should be) different. The dilemma should be handled carefully. Consulting can make the process simpler. Introspection can help. Meditation can help.

DeleteIn terms of Pub Adm, this is more like combination of Taylor's Scientific Management Theory and Subsequent Human Psychological Theories. Isn't it?
